Frank attended the Berkley School of Music in Boston. Upon graduating he moved back home to Chicago eager to write and develop music. Around that same time Erik had been kicked out of JOAN OF ARC and was temporarily sitting in with APOCOLYPSE HOBOKEN. Call it destiny, timing, or some other miraculous event, the two met and hit it off like jolly elves.
'Frankie' and Erik began experimenting with sounds and non-traditional instrumentations. Somewhere along the way they picked up a few other local musicians who had the same interest in building strong - solid melodies.
An Automotive have a peciliar sound. Their sound is a blend of surf, electronic, traditional & pop rock. The instrumentals and tracks with vocal work give their debut album a dark to happy, happy to dark feel. The happy moments remind me of THE BETA BAND or PINBACK. The dark moments remind me of Ennio Morricone.

Reviews:
"Quivering guitar riffs and complex drum beats converging
in swank trip-rock style. The soothing but never dull music is so emotionally
potent that the lyrical interludes are wonderfully startling."
--- Alternative Press #172
"One of the freshest-sounding albums of 2002". 4 STARS
--- All Music Guide
"An Automotive may sound very familiar, but they are unique in their own
way. There's something about this band that makes them easy to listen to."
