This project was entirely based around the works of Dave Wofford. Most of the material was written between 1996-1998 with various people in many different contexts and situations.
In 1996 Dave was working mostly with Chris Pfeffer and James Delarenzie under the name Tigers. They had many working songs, played a handful of shows, and were quite respected. Mostly an instrumental band (before the 'explosion' of Tortoise or the like) people still took great interest in what they were doing which was complicated, intricate, but still very smooth and full of melody. Over the course of a year or two however, Tigers began breaking apart due to members moving to separate cities.
With a mini-tape recording device, Dave continued writing and recording his ideas that seemed to flow out of him quite easily. The arrangements usually began with the electric bass, then guitar, and often vocal work. In 1998 Dave became close friends with Jason Butler who had offered to release his record. The idea was to start a label (Sixgunlover) while at the same time documenting Dave's output he'd been working on since 1996.
Dave enlisted help from various musicians in the local Austin community including Jason Butler, Chris Pfeffer, James Delarenzie, Clint Newsom, and Lars Gorranson. The group spent several days in the studio tracking and mixing the project. There were late nights, early mornings, and empty stomachs.
These recordings & players became known as Jeweled Handles. To this date only one released recording exists but a few members of the group plan to continue the project. Dave has gone onto other things such as The Boggs, Cause for Applause, and other personal recordings. Chris Pfeffer plays with J Church, Storm the Tower, and Severed Head of State. Clint Newsom plays with Rhythm of Black Lines. Jason Butler owns and operates Sixgunlover & plays in Quein 'es, Boom and occasionally with a few local Austin improvisers.

Reviews:
"Beautifully complex instrumentation, centering around
the dense rhythmic gravitation set by the bass and drums and colored by the
brightness of the orbiting satellites of both guitars."
---RocketFuel
"Jeweled Handles throw down some very understated and effective
dub-type drop out, muting, echo, and delay to set themselves ever so moderately
apart."
---Skyscraper Magazine
"Pissed off about the lack of quality guitar-rock? Buy
this record, its already making a run for the year-end Top 10!"
