"Quien 'es"- the last words of Billy the Kid before the gun blast that ended his life. Or so the story goes.

During the raw times of the late 1800s there was a certain sense of community and real struggle. Fending off politicians and greedy landowners while trying to keep food on the table was a daily ritual. Living such a stripped down lifestyle made honesty the only way of life. It is from those raw times that the songwriting of Quien es, BOOM! draws inspiration.

The two main songwriters of Quien es, BOOM! (pronounced…..) felt music tapping their shoulders at an early age. Dabney Dwelle thinks back to the 50's and 60's musicals he watched and then acted out as a child. Jason Butler remembers running around in his underwear listening to Ennio Morricone's "The Good, The Bad, & The Ugly" score. The two have taken these early moments of inspiration and built their lives upon them.

Dabney and Butler have created music together for the last 5 years. Both returned to Austin after Butler traveled to Chicago and Dwelle to the mountains of Montana. In early 2004, they recorded their first two songs with engineer Lars Gorrenson (The Cardigans) in Austin.

After their initial session with Lars, QBOOM! recruited three new members: drummer Kevin Fender for his honest critiques and meticulously thought-out drum ideas; electronic composer Scott Shellhamer (Ghosts and Vodka); and bass player Alec Padron.

QBOOM! recorded their 7 song EP with good friend/engineer Jeremy Lemos (Wilco, Jim O'Rourke, Loose Fur, Sonic Youth). While the band was in the studio, Nik Snell (Octopus Project) was invited to add Rhodes, guitar, and theremin. Nik was hooked and joined QBOOM! full time.

The result, "Cast Your Burdens Aside," Quien es, BOOM!'s 7 song EP, is set for US release on Austin-based Sixgunlover Records in April 2006 and for release in Japan on Dotlinecircle in March 2006.

The band will be hitting the road in support of their EP "Cast Your Burdens Aside" as well as previewing new material. QBOOM! have in mind adding string accompaniment and gospel voices for the next record.
